Neil Island

The Adventure

Neil is a cute little island located 37 Kms to the south of the Andaman Islands. The unexplored coral reefs, amazing bio-diversity, white sandy sun kissed beaches and tropical forest, makes it one of the hot tourist destination in the Andamans. Neil and Havelock islands are part of Ritchie's Archipelago. It provides an ideal holiday destination for eco-friendly tourists who appreciate its natural settings. The sea encircling the island is also shallow and full of colourful coral reefs.

The beaches here are popular for their shady trees and mesmerising sunrises and sunsets. Neil, with its very relaxed vibes and long deserted beaches, is a place to let go all your worries and feel one with nature. The widest part of the island is about 5 kms in length. You can walk the whole island in about two hours.

Unlike most of the islands in the Andaman Group, Neil has a flat terrain. The island is also comparatively small, with an area of 19 square kilometres. One can feel the serenity of village life here.

A natural rock formation in Laxmanpur beach is locally known as the Howrah Bridge. You need to visit the place during low tide as the retreating sea leaves behind unexplored treasure of the ocean.

Towards the southern tip of Neil lies another natural wonder 'Sir Hugh Rose Island' also known as Chhota Niel. It is a turtle nesting ground and now declared a wild life sanctuary.
